What you can cite
Pick the kind of source and the form shows only the details that style needs.
- Papers and books: journal articles, news and magazine articles, books, book chapters, reports, theses and dissertations, conference papers.
- Web and media: websites, videos, podcast episodes, social media posts, and AI tools or chats.
How it works
- Search by title, DOI, ISBN or web address. We read the details from Crossref, DataCite, OpenAlex, PubMed, Open Library and Google Books, or from the page itself. You can also type everything in.
- Check the form. It tells you what's still missing, such as a year or a publisher, before you copy.
- Switch between APA 7, MLA 9, Chicago, Harvard and IEEE, then copy the citation or its in-text version. Add several to "My list" and export them together.
Good to know
- Databases store titles the way publishers send them. We offer to switch a title to sentence case for APA, but check it.
- Social media posts and AI chats follow the latest APA guidance. Your instructor may ask for something different.
- Already have a reference list? Check it for mistakes before you submit.
