Terms of use
PaperCitation is free to use. By using it, you agree to these terms.
A screening aid, not a guarantee
PaperCitation helps you spot problems in references. It can miss errors and it can mis-match sources, especially books, theses, non-English titles and reports. "Couldn't verify" doesn't mean a source is made up, and "Verified" doesn't mean a source supports what you wrote. You're responsible for your own work and for following your institution's rules.
The service is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any loss that comes from using it or relying on its results.
Fair use
Please don't:
- use bots or scripts to send checks in bulk, or try to get around usage limits
- try to disrupt, overload or break into the service
- use PaperCitation to accuse someone of misconduct based on its results alone
We may limit or block access that looks like abuse.
Data from other sources
Records and citations come from third-party databases such as Crossref, OpenAlex and Open Library. We don't control their accuracy.
Changes
We may change these terms or the service. If we change the terms, we'll update this page and the date below.
